Day 1 Bar Harbor,
Maine (USA)
A fine night at sea
and a mid-morning approach to Bar Harbor gave a fine start to the voyage. With
the help of the pilot we threaded our way through a carpet of lobster pot buoys
to the bay and kicked the hook over the side. Once tied to the bottom the
invasion began. The boats were launched and filled with invasion forces. We
were in the 10:40 boat.
Having been here
before and visited the famous Acadia National Park, we opted instead for a tour
of historical sites, mainly the homes/cabins/mansions/parks of early Bar Harbor
(Eden). Our guide, Lynn, was dressed in
Victorian clothing and gave a spirited and informative walking tour of those
aforementioned places. The temp climbed to 85º so we often sought and found
shady spots from which to view the
sites.
Following the walking
tour we stopped at the seaside Bar Harbor Inn Terrace Garden Grille for a Maine
lunch. Boiled lobster for one and peekytoe crab for the other. Great spot for
lunch, with umbrellas for shade and a view of the harbor.

Once full of fresh
seafood we wandered back to the pier and caught a boat back to the ship.
At about 4pm we
recovered the hook. At 7:30pm we began one of our favorite ship-board events of
enjoying piano and violin music prior to dinner. Dined in the main dining room
then a show after.
Noon report: Position 44°23.57’N 068°
11.51’W. Temp 81. Wind 12k. At anchor 1.3 nm off Bar Harbor. Sunrise 0508,
