Sea Day enroute Reykjavik, Iceland

Day 9 At Sea

Out in the North Atlantic again. Cloudy and cool in the morning. Temperature 52. Making a dash for the next port and using the time to catch up on other facets of shipboard life. Breakfast, of course. A lecture on what to expect in upcoming ports of call. A special luncheon hosted by the Captain, Hotel Director and HR Manager.

Noon report: 62º 15.74'N and 032º 19.67'W Speed 17.6 knots. Course 065º. Denmark Straits. Depth 8,440'. Clear sky. Temperature 48º F, 9ºC. Wind N 23 knots. Humidity 78%. Sunrise at 0426. Sunset at 2203. Distance from last port (Qaqortoq) : 524 nm, Next port (Reykjavik) 308 nm, total cruise 2,289 nm.

The daily voice from the bridge reported we have sailed about 70 nm south of where the German battleship Bismark sank the HMS Hood during WWII.

Seas are building from an old storm to the NE of us. Not bad, but a little motion At 2110 I spotted a whale spout to our North and then the back of the whale broaching a couple of times.
